Very, very rarely am I infuriated by news articles as much as I am by this one.
So, as I sometimes do when I’m bored, this morning at school I logged onto CNN whilst in Computer class. I saw, and clicked on, a heart-touching story about a young transgender girl from Colorado - six years old - who had been barred access to her school’s girl bathroom, because ‘his (the school referred to her by her physical anatomy) genitalia would make other girls uncomfortable’. Her parents were, and are, fighting a legal battle for her to be allowed access.
I thought it was about the sweetest story I had ever heard, and such a tragedy that she wouldn’t be allowed to use the lavatory she desired. I thought that, because CNN’s commentators are usually quite Liberal, there would be a massive outburst of support in her favor.
Man, was I wrong.
Thousands of comments have been made on the article, such as the one shown in the picture, displaying such offensive, hurtful things about transgendered children, comparing their desire to be a different gender to children pretending to be dogs, superheroes, snobby royalty, or astronauts. Comments saying that all people should follow the genitalia they were given. All of these with dozens, hundreds, thousands, of upvotes. And any comments saying that there was nothing wrong with the girl almost always had 50% or more downvotes for every upvote.
I have three or four trans friends, and to them, there is no question who they are. It’s not pretend, it’s not a call for attention. It’s a simple, “I have a Penis/Vagina, and I am a Girl/Guy (respectively).” It’s a simple fucking concept for me to be used to, and it sickens me that others can’t have the fucking common courtesy to refer to people the way they would prefer.

a) No, no they aren’t. I’m MtF but I still use the women’s washroom and have been using one for my entire 26 year life. NEVER HAS THAT HAPPENED and I know no one that has had a problem with girls apparently having no common decency. Women and girls aren’t wild animals, they enjoy their privacy like everyone else and wouldn’t want to evade on that of others. Obviously I’m sure some sociopathic women have randomly evaded the stalls of other ladies but how does this fact matter towards the concept of letting a 6 year old girl use the bathroom of her gender?
b) Congrats on sexualizing children because little girls would not get anything out of seeing a penis besides some curiosity as to what the fuck it is. A little girl seeing another little girl’s part, be them a vagina or a penis, isn’t going to hurt her. You know what does hurt little kids though? TRANSPHOBIA!
Really, it never ceases to amaze me how some adults are considerably less mature then their children. Its like if we raise some people backwards where they start to take childish issue with really stupid shit like who you rather have consensual sex with and what gender you happen to identify as.
Also stop it with the slippery slope arguments. Christ sakes no being transgender is not the fucking same as identifying as a tree or a toaster. Everyone should just take the fucking signs off all the bathrooms. Everyone wins. Cis people have extra stalls for when their bathroom is more full. Disabled people get an extra chance at an accessible stall. Trans* people are always in the right bathroom because there is no wrong bathroom.
Also at some point someone told me they had to have their bathroom (at a small business) redone because there apparently needed to be separate sexed bathrooms because of some law?! So in some places it is apparently more expensive to to be Trans* accessible.

And the worst part is when you point out all this shit people insult you and pull really stupid ass excuses out of their arse because its too hard to admit that maybe, just maybe someone actually called it right for how stupid something is.
Seriously, I had this fucker on DA basically say that we should support gendered bathroom despite all the problems they cause (I explained all the problems noted above essentially so they knew) because they’re afraid of someone of the opposite sex accidentally walking into their stall LIKE IF A SLIGHT BIT OF EMBARRASSMENT IS MORE IMPORTANT THAT THE SAFETY OF TRANS PEOPLE! Also apparently I’m a hipster evil feminism weirdo *insert other insults that make little to no sense* for not finding it all that much worse if a man accidentally walks in on me then a women.
In short people are willing to do everything in their power to prevent needed change because of personal fears. Not wanted change, NEEDED change. You have to have your head stuck pretty fucking far up your arse to not realize segregated bathrooms are a problem if not only for the people they harm but for the problematic beliefs they support. Basically this is a bunch of bullshit.
I love how this makes more sense than doing 15 minutes of argumentative Trans 101 with an adult.
